Hey there @adilahav,

Can you let me know if you’re running into any error messages when you try to run the Dropbox desktop app? If so and you see a blue hyperlink in the dialogue box, please click the hyperlink and copy and paste the full error log in your reply.

If you’re perhaps not receiving an error message when trying to launch Dropbox, can you check if Dropbox is whitelisted in any antivirus and firewall software you also have installed on your computer?

Finally, when you try and run the desktop app, do you not see the Dropbox icon appear in your system tray? If you have a small upward arrow then you may need to click this to expand the system tray and see the Dropbox icon.

Let me know what you find and we can go from there - Thanks!

No error msg when I run Dropbox - I click on the dropbox icon and nothing happens.

Dropbox does not appear in my system tray.

I don't have any antivirus or firewall running.

Currently Dropbox is not of any use for me, I cannot even uninstall it, and I pay for the professional software.

Hi adilahav,

Have you tried restarting the computer after installing it? How about running it as an administrator? How about killing its process through Task Manager and then launching the program?

Are you launching Dropbox through the Start Menu or a desktop icon? Try the other method and see if it changes anything.

To force the program to uninstall, you can try deleting the C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox folder and then uninstalling it through the Control Panel.

You can also try installing it using the offline installer to see if that changes anything: https://www.dropbox.com/downloading?plat=win&type=full

  • Tried restarting many times.
  • Tried running as administrator.
  • Tried to kill the process, it is killed, but still can't run and can't uninstall.
  • I don't have a desktop icon. Trying from the Start menu, and also by running Dropbox.exe. When I run Dropbox.exe, it says that windows cannot locate "C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox\Client\Dropbox.exe
  • After deleting the C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox folder, I cannot unintall- it does not find the uninstaller file.
  • Tried to reinstall using the offline installer after deleting but nothing changes.

Since you mentioned that you deleted the Dropbox folder within Program files, this removed the uninstaller file too, however you also tried installing the offline installer. Did you remove the data again afterwards from the Dropbox folder in the Program files?

If they’ve been deleted then please do a quick download and installation of the desktop app from here. Then, please proceed with the steps below:

  1. Open Windows File Explorer.
  2. Copy this line and paste it into the address bar. Press Enter.
%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%
3.   In “Program Files,” open the “Dropbox” folder, then open the “Client” folder.
4.   In “Client,” you should see a file named DropboxUninstaller.exe. Double-click this file to run the uninstaller.

If the uninstaller fails or doesn’t launch, try running the uninstaller as an administrator:
  1. Right-click DropboxUninstaller.exe
  2. Select Run as Administrator
  3. Enter the computer admin username and password when prompted.
  4. Follow the the steps in the uninstaller.

Once you’ve successfully uninstalled the desktop app, I’d suggest proceeding with an advanced reinstall to remove any remaining app data. The exact steps for this are in our Help Center article here.

Let me know how it goes - Thanks!

I ran "DropboxUninstaller.exe" as administrator.

It starts uninstalling, but after few seconds it stops and says:

"Drop failed to uninstall".

Hey @adilahav,

Can you just check for me before you try unintalling, if when you open up your Task manager you have any Dropbox processes still running on your computer? If so, please can you end all of these tasks and try uninstalling again.

Let me know if this helps - Thanks!

There were two processes running related to Dropbox, but unistall failed also after I killed them.
