I have the same problem. Thought the old hard drive was crashing and went through a weekend of reinstalling everything.

It now looks like the problem is dropbox. When a file is selected in explorer it crashes. Believe it may have something to do with the quickview pane. Not sure but very annoying.

I'm having issues too. When I click on my Dropbox shortcut in Windows Explorer (8.1), it appears to be indexing but extremely slowly and never appears to finish. As soon as I click back on Explorer, the whole thing crashes. Has only been an issue in last week or so. My Dropbox icon tells me my files are up to date. 😞

I think I am having the same issue. Whenever I click on the Dropbox desktop shortcut, it doesn't open and seems to close/restart because the Dropbox icon in the notification area disappears and then reappears again. I can only access Dropbox by going through Windows Explorer and can't open Dropbox at all by clicking on any Desktop icon/shortcut. This is maddening and it only began happening the last week or so (and have used Dropbox for last 6 years without major issues).

For me, the problem turned out not to be Dropbox, but rather the Windows Classic Shell. I ran the troubleshooting tool on that and it fixed everything. On my laptop, I needed to remove the Shell and reinstall it. Might not be an issue for you, but if you use the shell, it's worth a try, especially seeing as they issued an update very recently.

(If not that, then maybe try a system restore to a fortnight ago?)

Good luck!

I'm running Windows 7 Pro SP1.  I have several folders (not all) that crash Window's Explorer every time.  I can access those same folders via the web interface, but I really need to access them from my desktop (especially when I travel).  I had no issues like this in the past.  Did Dropbox upgrade itself?  Should I delete Dropbox and re-install it?

Thanks in advance for your advice.
