unsinc files on my small mac air device

Explorer | Level 3

Hi - I have a mac air I use for travel.... I have chosen to unsinc the files in preferences, but all the folders that are hogging memory are still on my hard drive.... how to remove them without loosing them. Can I still have a drop box folder on that small device? or do I simply need to access drop box from a web browser from now on?

Thanks for getting back to me, @Lillah.

You can try selectively syncing the folders in your Dropbox folder in smaller batches. Anything outside of the Dropbox folder doesn’t sync to your account online, so you’re free to delete them without worrying about the ones in your Dropbox folder if you want.

If you'd like to remove the whole Dropbox folder though, you'll have to first unlink the computer from your account. Once you do, you'll be signed out from the desktop app, the Dropbox folder will stop syncing, it'll become a folder like any other, and you can safely delete it without affecting your files online.

Having said that, if you're not using any of those listed in your Security tab, you can go ahead and unlink them.

Also, the country IP geolocation isn't always accurate. If the country/state isn't correct, you can check it using any online IP address lookup tool, which you can find by doing a simple web search. Different websites might give you different answers, so you can try out a few to get a varied perspective on this.

I hope this information helps, but let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers!

Hey @Lillah, I'd be more than happy to help look into this with you - let's see what we can find.

If you don't want your data locally on your computer, you can selectively sync it.

This will remove whole folders from your hard drive, keeping them in your account online though, with the option to sync any of them back at any point in time.

You can also move your Dropbox folder to another location, but I'd recommend checking out this article which gives some tips to bear in mind before you do this.

If you are trying to selectively sync content and you're not seeing a difference in storage, could you send me a screenshot (without any personal info) of what you see when you hover over your Dropbox icon, as well as any space discrepancy?

Let me know what you find!

Hi thanks for responding... I did selestively unsinc on my mac air - still my folders on drop box had downloaded to that hard drive and hogged the small memory on that device.

Can I just throw the hard drive folders in the trash? or will they disappear from drop box?

also I followed this link  https://help.dropbox.com/accounts-billing/settings-sign-in/unlink-relink-computer-mobile

following directions to secuity i was shocked to fins that someone had my device in Tennesse? or I tried to log in in tennesse? which is unlikely as I dont live there. what is up with that? and if I unlink that one will it also unlink my phone? or is it a manufacturing things of some kind? can I just unlin the devices that no longer apply?
