windows 10 file explorer not responding

Helpful | Level 5

I've been experiencing persistent File Explorer freezes when operating in Dropbox folders under Windows 10.  I have begun to wonder if Dropbox is somehow involved, as there do not seem to be any similar errors occuring to other people for Windows alone.  My wife's computer has been experiencing a similar problem; we share a Dropbox account.

Hi there, could you try quitting the Dropbox desktop application temporarily to see if the issues persist when the app is closed.

What type of activities are you doing? What types of files are you editing? Any details you can provide would be great!

It could be any action - moving or renaming. Haven't seen it with Dropbox off. I followed your suggestion, then got busy and lost track. Another odd thing- Dropbox doesn't start with Windows like it's set to, at least not all the time. Maybe reinstallation would help that.
My wife's computer's File Explorer has been flaking out regularly in the same way. I have not been able to get her to shut down Dropbox to see what happens.

Check the Dropbox desktop application preferences to see if the app is allowed to run at startup.

Regarding the issue, please let me know what you find out with further testing on your end, since it’s important to know if the issues persist when the app is not running.

Yes, it is set to run at startup. It just doesn't.

If this is the case, try an advanced reinstall of the app to see if this helps.
