Dropbox for Business Standard - Team Admin access to folders and file

Dropbox for Business Standard - Team Admin access to folders and file

New member | Level 2

Hi,

I am the new IT Manager at my company, which is already using Dropbox for Business Standard.

There is some content in DropBox that I don't need (and probably shouldn't really have) access to.  If I am made a Team Admin in the account will that automatically give me access to every folder and file in the account?

The existing Team Admin will retain access to everything.

Thanks,
Mark

Hello @mrkjones, welcome to the Community!

You are correct that while on a Business Standard plan, a Team Admin has access to the entirety of the team.

Tiered admin privileges and permission modifications for Admins can be made when on an Advanced or Enterprise Business plan.

However, if your team wants to compartmentalize content and allocate different team members access to different content, you may find our Group settings useful here.

Let me know if this helps - thanks!

Hi

Thank you very much for letting me know, I suspected that would be the case.

With Groups I guess the Team Admin(s) still have access to everything?

With Tiered Admin priviledges is it only the Team Admin(s) that would have unrestricted access to the folders and files?

Thanks,

Mark

Happy to help @mrkjones

Indeed, Team Admins always have access to everything, as they have the ability to sign in as their team members

With tiered permissions, though, you can have Support admins and User management admins who are in turn not able to do that.

However, if upgrading to an Advanced or Enterprise Business team is not preferred, you could use Groups as a workaround.

This way you can be made a member of the groups with the folders that are relevant to you, and maintain inaccessibility to the files and folders you do not need to be a part of.

If there is anything else I can help with let me know!
