Dropbox is asking me to create a new personal account when I merge Personal and Business

Dropbox is asking me to create a new personal account when I merge Personal and Business

New member | Level 1

We have an issue within our team where a team member who is reluctant to create a new personal account as Dropbox is asking her to when trying to sign into our shared team account. She already has a pro account and is being asked to join our team with a new business email address. Not sure how to manage this or what to advise - how can she keep her personal Pro account on her existing personal email address and also have access to the team shared account with a separate work email address without Dropbox asking her to merge and create a new personal account?

She really should create a new Dropbox account to use for joining the team. If she doesn't, and instead chooses to merge the accounts, her Pro account will merge into the team. Basically, she won't own her account anymore, and if she's ever removed from the team, that account is deleted.

Have her create a new Dropbox account using a business email address. Invite that account to the team. She'll have the opportunity to link both accounts to the same computer if she wishes to.

So here is what happened to me...

I followed the instructions to create a team from my personal account - it did not ask me for a business email address. But I also sent an invite to my business email address. So now I have 2 accounts.

When I try to enter the correct business and correct private email accounts it tells me I can not use an existing account.

How do I swap the 2 emails around?

Hi Wayne

You should be able to change emails on www.dropbox.com/account page. Here are more details about the 'team' feature: https:confused face:/help.dropbox.com/teams-admins/team-member/free-teams-overview

I also have this happening with me. I have my account and got a link from employer I work with outside of my own business. When I click to accept it is asking me to merge or create a new email for my personal dropbox. I don't want my personal on a different email as it is on my business email. I haven't clicked either option and  am wondering how to back track or if I need to in order to make sure I am not joined to this under my current email address?

If you merge, your account will cease to exist and it will become part of the business account. This is why it's suggested that you create a new account.

If you don't want to change your personal account and don't want to merge, then the only other option is to ask your employer to send an invitation to a different email address and use that for the business account. If needed, create a new Gmail, Outlook, etc., email account and use that for the invitation. Once you accept the invitation with that email, you'll have the ability to link your personal account to the business account so you can run both at the same time.

Hi there,

I just merged my personal account with my team's busyness account. How can I undo this action?

Your team Admin needs to do it - they need to contact support
