Edit Documents from Links

Edit Documents from Links

Explorer | Level 4

I would like to be able to send my group links so that they can click and quickly edit from their phone apps instead of downloading/uploading changes to their documents.

I figured out how to send the link but I am unable to edit the document by clicking on it.

Thats something I'm afraid you need to ask the app developers UPO.

Once the file is off Dropbox its up to the app to then 'return' it back to Dropbox.

Not all apps allow or have this functionality.

Microsoft Office ones do on iOS, I'm not sure on Android.

Re: Edit Documents from Links

Dropboxer

Hey @UPO - thanks for posting your question here. How are you today?

This sounds normal and expected behavior to be honest since with Dropbox, you can indeed create a sharable link to any file or folder in your Dropbox folder and anyone with the link will be able to view the contents, but can’t edit them.

In order to collaborate on such documents, you'd need to share the files directly or create a new folder, put the files in that folder and then share the whole folders with the people you'd like to collaborate on these documents with.

I hope this makes sense and please let me know if you have any further questions; I'd be happy to help!

Ok, I shared a file and opened it in the app.  How can I edit the file from my app?
