Initially, please note that Dropbox won't format or compress your documents in any way. Having said that, could you please let me know how are you uploading and previewing these files - via the website, the desktop app, or the mobile app? Could you also check the file extension of the file in question?
 
Any additional info, as well as screenshots (omitting personal info) concerning this matter would be very helpful in having a better understanding.
