Image numbers changed?

Can you please give me some information on how it can be that I have images in dropbox of the same photo but with different file names/image numbers?

Initially, you mention:

Please note that camera uploads is a feature that automatically uploads each photo and video into your Camera Uploads folder once
 
However, if you also manually upload the same photos and videos into the same folder (the Camera Uploads folder), instead of replacing the files, they may be uploaded by adding, for example, (1) or (2) at the end of each file name. This may be a shot in the dark, but could this be the case?
 
I’d also kindly recommend checking this article out which suggests some reasons why you could have duplicate files. 
 
Furthermore, currently, there isn’t a way to automatically locate duplicate files, but you may be able to find a third-party app that allows you to do so.

Could you please provide me some additional info so as to have a better understanding of your concern?
 
Are you using camera uploads or are you manually uploading these photos? Are you experiencing this behavior in a shared folder by any chance? Do you see this via the website, the desktop app or mobile app?

Thanks.  I have been using camera uploads and manual uploading.  I'm working on a desktop and have been moving photos around a personal Dropbox account into the new Dropbox business.  I've not noticed image numbers before but we have been having trouble downloading pictures to our website and this error has shown up??  We are now having to check all pictures and separately move them into a new folder.  Until that's done I won't know how many have been changed/duplicated and at this moment not sure how it could have happened.  Just wondered if you could throw any light on possible reasons?

Hi Lusil

Thanks for your help.  I think I'm getting to the bottom of the problem.  We changed some of the codes/photo file numbers ourselves for quick reference.  It seems the original photo and the changed code ones have both been kept.  I don't know if it has been because of automatic syncronisations that both of them have gone into Dropbox from my PC?

Could you please elaborate on what process you followed to do this? At which point were they manually/automatically uploaded and then renamed?

Hi Lusil

Thanks for your reply.  To be honest I can't remember exactly when we renamed the photos so can't pin that down.  We have slow broadband connection and sometimes we think something is deleted but it can take a while so some of these photos could have been caught out by that.  

At least we now understand some of the possible issues so are working to ensure we have lessened the possibility of a repeat.
