Prevent copying data out of a Business Team Folder -- only allow applications to read/edit files

New member | Level 2
New member | Level 2
We have sensitive data in our Business dropbox folder. This has to be shared with employees. When an employee leaves the team, we remote wipe their Team Dropbox account. We need to make sure that they don't have any copies of the data that are outside the Team Dropbox folder. Is there any way to make the OS disallow any attempts to copy files and folders from inside Team Dropbox over to a place outside?

Hi there @kshalle  !

Thanks for reaching out to us about this! Through Dropbox, there is no way to prevent team members from copying or downloading the content they have access to in the folder.

Even if members only have access to a shared link, there is still no way to prevent them from actually downloading and saving a copy of the content.
(The only thing you can prevent with shared links, is the ability for others to edit, collaborate, or delete the files in the shared link).

One thing you can do, however, is set up a form of SSO (single-sign-on) or 2FA for your team, which means that you team members can only access Dropbox by signing in to a central identity provider, or through a two step authentication process (such as a security key).

Hope this info helps you out, and if you have any additional questions, let us know and we’ll be more than happy to help!

No, that is not possible. If they can access the files, they can copy them.
