Two users sharing the same file in a team folder

Helpful | Level 7

Hello support,

We have two users that share files in a team folder.  Is there a way for DropBox to open the file read-only in Office (Word/Excel)  if the other person is editing the file?  The client is trying to let them both edit but if a conflit arrises they get two files which is confusing.  They would rather just be blocked while the other is editing.  This is how it works if two users try to open the same office file on shared network drive, the second user will be read only. Thanks

Our app doesn’t currently have the option to lock a file in the way you’ve described, but we have a feature called the Badge. One of the many things you can do with the Badge is to be able to see when another user is viewing or editing the Microsoft Office document, so you can avoid conflicts. I’ve used this for personal collaboration efforts, and it works quite well!

Cheers
