Unable to open online only files, without internet connection.

Hello,

 

I am using a 2017 MacBook Pro 15 with macOS High Sierra version 10.13.4. Our company plan is Dropbox Business Advanced. I have Dropbox v51.4.66 App installed. I also have a personal Dropbox account.

 

For business use I have multiple directories checked Local for SmartSync that do not sync locally. I cannot access the files to work locally without internet connectivity. Only after I attempt to access a file when I am online does it sync (to me this means download to my mac).

 

The behavior I though was implied is that the files would sync locally, in the background, when I was online. How can this be achieved without manually open each file?

Hi Martin,

You need to turn SmartSync off if you want the files locally on your machine. SmartSync is exactly as you've described it - the files only download and sync when actively request them.

To turn off Smart Sync and make it local only follow https://www.dropbox.com/help/desktop-web/smart-sync

Hi Martin,

You need to turn SmartSync off if you want the files locally on your machine. SmartSync is exactly as you've described it - the files only download and sync when actively request them.

This only takes you to a link to USE Smart Sync. I am trying to turn it OFF, and I cannot find that info anywhere. Do I have to uninstall and reinstall again?? I cannot preview any documents on my Desktop, which is CRUCIAL for my business. I can't find any reason why that is happening except the use of Smart Sync.

Hey @Francesca A.1 . Thanks for posting about this. 

No need to reinstall. Setting all your files to local as well as changing the default desktop smart sync setting, as advised here, would be the solution. I also wanted to add another Community discussion we had about this here. I am sure it will answer a lot of questions on the matter. 

 How can I completely disable Smart Sync?

Hi

Please me i m in trouble

At time of installtion i select PC > Downloads folder for sync , i want t remove that.

 

Now when i  Quit dropbox and accesss file in download folder locally itsshowing me error

Please help me

I am  using windows 10

when i right click on folder , there is no smart> online, Local option on web dropbox.com ,

 and i want also remove that path that , dropbox create for download folder this ,  C:\Users\Mukesh\Dropbox\My PC (DESKTOP-EBT4BIT)\Downloadsdb1.png
