Can Dropbox automatically stop Syncing when I am on my hotspot?

I use dropbox to sync photos are work. During my commute, I use a portable hotspot. Dropbox is syncing during my commute and eating up my Data plan. Is there a method to be able to automatically pause it when I am on my laptop especially on battery power? I know I can manually pause it but then I may not remember to re-start it at work.

Hi there,

Sorry the the late response - are you still having issues?

Thanks

Yes, I am still having this issue. I basically have to pause Dropbox syncing. Rather inconvenient.

Me too! I take a look for a solution to turn off the sync while I connect my tablet through a Mobile Hotspot to the internet.

Hi there Ed,

I didn't understand if you're work at Dropbox, but in any case - I also have this exact question. Is there any way to setup Dropbox such that it does not sync over certain networks? For example, if the client detects that I'm currently connected to my mobile hotspot, it does not sync?

Thanks

Same here! I sync a lot of data and when my laptop is on a UMTS dataplan, Dropbox eats my dataplan. I now have to manually disable syncing, but I tend to forget...
So an option to disable sync when on a data plan would be highly appreciated!

+1 would like to have a preference that disables dropbox syncing when on a hotspot.

same here ! some others backup software have it in option. Not dropbox. And eat my dataplan :/

+1. Folks, if you have the same problem, upvote the original question, don't just comment "me too". That way, this thread can become more noticeable.
Cheers

Yes please! Forgetting to turn off sync a single time can eat data for way more money than the monthly fee for Dropbox Pro! It's easy to forget once a month, which means Dropbox single-handedly maxes out and disables the internet connection in my mobile phone!
