Can we have different plans / price points / data combinations / plan sizes?

Can we have different plans / price points / data combinations / plan sizes?

Hi, I find limited in the choices of subscription plans. Basic/free and Pro/110$

I'd gladly pay something like 25$ a year for 50GB and a 2 users family plan.

Considering iCloud have a 12$ plan for 20 GB and 48$ for 200GB, that seems reasonable..

@Mark

All widely-used cell phone service providers offer choices when it comes to subscription plans.  In fact, most offer a preload and pay-as-you-go option.  All-you-can-eat buffets do make their money from customers who eat less, but there is less variation between how much people can eat.  I mean, one customer might eat two or three times more than the average customer, at most, but they'll be hard-pressed to eat forty (1TB/25MB) times more.  (And almost all buffets have an order menu for customer who don't eat much, to give them the choice they deserve, but I guess that's a little besides the point.)

I know a portion of the cost goes to staff and development, and there's a base cost involved.  Just like in any business, for example, if you were running a buffet restaurant with waitstaff and cooks, not to mention renting the place, but I again, I'm going off the point.

But you're right.  Dropbox is a business.  They want to make as much money as they can.  And if the way to make the most money is to blanket costs, and fool the "majority into funding the minority" (I really like how you put that, regarding economy and not just Dropbox, of course), it's their choice to do so.

As a poor student, I can't afford Dropbox's blanketed price, as it is now.  But I know it's a great service, and the price they ask for isn't exorbitant given how useful the product is.  I won't be able to enjoy it, but I know that better-off customers like you will continue to, and that's great.  Kudos.

I agree, I have 225GB on Google, I pushed it to 15TB and it stayed there for weeks. All in including my e-mail etc I pay £80 a year GBP. Dropbox will never beat that - maybe they just don't want to anymore.

If all they do is keep on shushing people and not doing anything in the background, they will soon be on welfare, which would be a shame

Like many other users, I really like dropbox for personal use and to store my pictures. Unfortunately, the free account doesn't provide enough space.

I would be interested of purchasing dropbox, but I find the price a way to expensive dropbox for business plan if I use it for personal purposes. Because the current plans are to expensive, like many other users, I am unfortunatly looking for alternative solutions from your competitors.

I've talked to a lot of person around me and they were saying the same thing; it we had the possibility of purchasing a dropbox plan for around 30$ /year for let say 100-200 go, we would be paying for the service.

Is there a "basic" plan like that offered or is there plan offer a plan like that in the future.

When I had it...I loved Dropbox...couldn't think of using anything else.  But I cannot afford $99/yr for 1TB of storage.  I might consider it if there was an option for like 300 or 500GB. But my question would be this...what happens if you fill that up?  With all the HD videos I can see even 1TB filling up "eventually"...so then what?  You now have 1TB full and then need what...another 1TB?  So... is it now $198/year.  That goes true for even others commenting on say a 200GB plan..what happens when you fill that 200GB for say $30 a year?...you need to pay $30/year now for the 200GB that's full plus another $30 for the other 200GB you need to use?

Simple really, If you think you may one day use 1TB or more you go elsewhere, to Google which is expandable or to Amazon which is as much as you want for half the yearly fee. I am sure DB know they are losing in this market, and without some form of adjustment, they might be around in years to come.

I have the same problem with dropbox price plan.

Actually, onedrive is better in this way.

We can buy just 50 GB which is sufficient for me and I think for many others with only almost 25 dollars.

I think it is a serious issue for me and absolutely I prefer to buy onedrive instead of Dropbox.
Dropbox team should consider this problem.

Hey does anyone else think they should add a 500GB plan for $4.99 a month and they would make way more money? Or have more ways to get more space on a free account?

They have publicly rejected such an idea and also explained that this is because they do NOT make more money as so many people downgrade. So they lose money on people dropping from higher priced plans.

This has been discussed to death on the forums already. Please search for the other topics in the Share an idea forum and reply there.

Dropbox has trialed smaller plans multiple times in the past and they were not financially feasible. I wouldn't expect them to try it again.

Sorry @Rich, I was obviously moving it as you were posting 🙂
