A number of us have started using dropbox paper at work. We want to save documents that we create in paper to an existing Team folder but I can't see how to do this. Any ideas anyone?
I love using Dropbox paper and prefer it to google docs or anything else. However, I share the same concerns as stated above. More of a drag and drop interface or desktop interface integrated with regular Dropbox folders would be the icing on an already delicious cake.
Dropbox Paper allows you to download what you have written as a Markdown document which is kind of nice already.
I could use a functionality like Paper but I'm reluctant to invest my time & effort in it ... It's not the first time Dropbox depricated functionality (I still haven't forgotten about carousel)
That's why I would find it a good incentive to start using Paper on a day to day basis if my "Papers" would be automatically (so no download as ...) available as Mardown documents in my Dropbox Files ....
In the end I bought a Dropbox account to sync files .......
I agree and can imagine 2 ways to make Paper much more powerful.
1. When saving photos and other documents to a Drop Box folder, automatically insert that link (and preview, if possible) into a single Paper document assigned to that folder. This would create a chronological "log book" that could be later annotated to explain the purpose of each file and to add a way to navigate that DropBox folder.
2. Conversely, if it was possible to work from within Paper as a kind of diary or journal and very easily create and edit Word, Excel, etc. documents embedded within Paper (and saved automatically to a linked DropBox folder), again, it would be a much more intuitive way to integrate DropBox folders with Paper documents.
+1 to this. Here's my use case... I have a Dropbox folder titled "Car" -- all of my car maintenance receipts etc get scanned and go into that folder. I also have a Dropbox Paper doc as a master maintenance journal- a single document showing all the work done on the car. Naturally, I want to save that in the "Car" folder in Dropbox. This seems like a pretty big miss with Paper/Dropbox.
If Dropbox can't represent Paper documents as regular files (for store on local drive), good workaround will be to store them as link (eg .url file - https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-create-a-url-file ) in Dropbox files structure.
So Dropbox users will can easily access to Dropbox Paper documents in browser via single click (in web interface and in system file explorer).
This will be much better that now, when users must duplicate folder strucute from Dropbox Files to Dropbox Paper.
Yes, absolutely. Collaborative documents are important - but don't make me think on where i need to go to find them. Dropbox's biggest advantage over Google Drive is that is has a clear, structured file system. It's easy to find stuff - unlike the mess that is Google Drive.
Dropbox don't make me think about "are those in Paper or in a docx file in my FS?"
We should be able to file our Paper docs inside our Dropbox folders. For example, in a Dropbox folder, /Business/Sales, the sales team has files, and that sales team also has Paper documents. That means we also have to manage a separate Paper folder under /Business/Sales. Are we meant to mirror two separate folder structures for this? It's awful to maintain, and I think we will switch back to Google Drive, where our Docs are stored in one folder tree.
As much as we love Paper's UI (why we came to Dropbox), it's impossible to organize our files, and so if there are no plans to implement this fix, then we'll have to switch back to Google Drive / Google Docs.
