Make file prefixing an option - file requests

When someone requests a file using your request a file tool, the person who uploads the file's name gets added to the file name eg janedoe_filea.pdf . This is really frustrating and I end up having to rename my files. I did a search to solve the problem and I see there are other people that are quite frustrated by the problem but apparently there is no fix for this?  Please let me know if there is a solution for this. thanks

That cannot be changed at this time.

Hello, I want to put the name of the person who uploads a file for the File Request AFTER the file name.

For example, it is now Han Solo - File.mp3

I want

File - Han Solo.mp3

Is there a way to change this?

Thanks!

There is no way to change that I'm afraid Abrams.

I'm also moving this to feature requests.

Or how about the option to just not have the file name changed? I'm so confused why the person's name has to be added in the first place.

To distinguish it from files uploaded by other people through the same file request, and to let you know who uploaded the file. A file request isn't necessarily meant for just one person.

I understand why someone might want to have that option, but my question was why their name HAS TO BE added. I don’t understand why Dropbox forces people to add the uploader’s name when the vast majority of file requests people send are handled by one person anyway. It should be a simple option you can check on or off. This cannot be that difficult to code. Until then, I will continue to manually change every single file name to remove the person’s name.

Files uploaded via file request prefix each file with the name of the uploader.

In the case of organization that depends on strict naming convention, this is not desirable.

We'd like this prefixing to be an option.

Hey @daslolo, File Request recipients can either choose to submit the requested content while they’re signed in (i.e. where their name will be assigned to the upload) or even directly from their device (i.e. even if they don’t have an account), where they’d have to fill in this info manually if they’re not logged in. In other words, you can advise colleagues to sign out if you’d like to bypass the naming convention.

Please let me know how you get on with my suggestions here & once you get back in touch with me, we can discuss it in more detail. Until we talk again, have a wonderful rest of your day!

So, it means there is no way we can choose it, at our end.
In that case, its not satisfactory for me.
Atlease, while making file request, we should have a reminder to ask our sender what we desire.

Can we please have an option to disable the renaming of files?

Renaming files can have catastrophic effects on dependent files. If I have an InDesign file with hundreds of dependent files in the Links folder and the filenames don't match what the main document expects, then it won't find them. Each file will need to be manually renamed to make things work again.

I'm sure InDesign isn't the only programme that has dependent files. The same can happen with linked files in Photoshop, Illustrator and likely countless other apps.
