Disable/Enable Notifications for Certain Folders

Disable/Enable Notifications for Certain Folders

Is there any way to disable file update notifications for certain folders? I have a few applications syncing data to Dropbox and they generate a lot of notification noise on my desktop clients. I still want these folders synced on my desktop PCs, but I don't want to receive file update notifications for them. Is this possible?

Is there anyway this issue can get more attention? I share a folder with dozens of other people that constantly save new and updated .docs, and the nonstop notifications drive me crazy. I DON'T want to disable the syncing to my PC, that would make having the desktop software installed no less than useless to me. And I still want to be notified for changes in other folders.

I know mute functionality is in the API, however it'd be nice to be able to selectively mute folders as an end user. A lot of times I work with people rendering frames, and it'd be nice to temporarily mute those project folders. I also have a lot of apps connecting to Dropbox and I don't need to see that database files with names like AE67FD-801BFE-CC4019-FFAB0...are being updated. So it'd be super nice at first to have a preference for muting the Apps folder.

Yes, please! I have a folder shared with 50+ people that has no use if I disable auto-sync, but it is SO annoying to have it flashing on my screen every few minutes... Please!

Yes, yes, please 🙂  I personally think ALL apps folder notifications should be muted by default and user would have to opt-in. At the same time I have a hard time to imagine somebody else than the given app developer really opting-in, I doubt any real final user wants to constantly see inner communication of any application. The only effect of that would be his/her annoyance. I have spent a lot of energy describing it in different forum (API targeted but very related to this problem) so it does not make sense to repeat myself, please read here. Thank you very much in advance for taking this Joe's request seriously. Best regards, Jan

Agreed. The Apps folder should be muted by default.

I have multiple computers which I do development projects on and I am constantly seeing Eclipse update many files.  Being able to mute this would be a wonderful addition to the Dropbox client. I prefer it over any of the other cloud solutions because it picks up on the files much quicker, but this is definitely an annoyance.

I cannot believe there isn't already the ability to turn off (or on) notification on a folder by folder level.

I searched on how to disable desktop notifications on a folder basis because I thought it would just be an obvious available option, and I stumbled on this thread. So yeah, my apps folder is going crazy with incremental update notifications which is very annoying. I'd also like the option to disable it on other folders too, but disabling notifications on the apps folder is definitely necessary. Thanks!

I agree with all of the statements above. We need to be able to disable notifications selectively in our Dropboxes. It is annoying, frustrating, and we end up missing important notifications because Dropbox pops up so frequently, even incessantly at times.
