I highly recommend box.com!! I am a software dev, and it does GREATLY exceed Google Drive. I had been a paid member of box.com for YEARS, but this year, I switched to Asus WebStorage... I currently pay $2.50/month for 200 GB. It also supports Linux, which is important to me, as I use it (and Dropbox before it) to update my websites via my cell phone 😉
To be honest, the Dropbox ecosystem is still superior, at least comparing to GoogleDrive from my experience. Its syncing software is outrageous! So at the moment saying you pay what you get is fair.
That "superuser" needs facts regarding performance to convince users, not other mumbo jumbo.
I now this is an old topic. But I really do not need all de 1T of space. Does drop box plans to have different type of plans? I would no use more than 400 G...
Does drop box plans to have different type of plans?
Dropbox has tried smaller plans in the past (and very recently, actually) and found that they actually lose money on them. It's highly unlikely that you will see a smaller plan.
BUT, Dropbox cannot really estimate how much money they are losing because I will simply keep this account for short term projects and purchase a new account with someone else. I found MediaFire is running $3.75 per month for the same amount of space. If DropBox were to match this, no brainer, I would use DropBox for all of my storage needs.
As it is, DropBox THINKS it has a free customer that it will someday be able to upgrade.
Perhaps Dropbox should analyze their free users and see who is near the 2GB. From there they could develop a pricing structure for only those clients... $3.75 per month for 200GB ...
You want to keep the ones who cared enough to try you in the first place. Having no intermediate plan for these users make us feel ripped off as we feel we are subsidizing those who need massive amounts of storage when paying for that 1TB of space which is way more than we will ever use.
This is where the market is ... moving those freebies onto a real, paying plan. Send me the email and the offer and I will be on it. (Unless I switch to MediaFire first.)
Multitudes of accounts are on the free plan and are not requiring support. So, whether accurate or not, the free plan has taught me that it truly is only storage that I am using. I am willing to pay for a Dropbox plan that offers more storage with the same level of support as the free plan.
I read your comments above about "not being viable" -- I see also that you are a "Super User". I am wondering if you are also employed by DropBox.
I suppose this is only a forum and not a place where a Sales Team would actually respond to a request for a Special Offer for current users who want to stay with DropBox, but also want a real deal. Perhaps they did trials to obtain new users, but current accounts did not receive any special marketing to entice us into a paying account.
Moving freebies from free -- TO -- PAYING A SMALLER FEE (with very limited support) does not drain the system. Rather it adds new money that they are just leaving on the table or sending to MediaFire and Amazon.

And moving all the Pro users that don't want to pay as much to that smaller plan drains a lot more money than they gain. THAT is the problem with smaller accounts.
