Photos Tab - Why can't I exclude pictures?

New member | Level 1

I'm a relatively new Dropbox user, though I have been using Box.com at work for about a year now. I really like most of the functionality of Dropbox, but I don't like the Picture Tab (left hand column). It shows ALL my pictures and doesn't give me the opportunity to exclude any pictures from showing up in that menu.

I work as a paramedic instructor part time and I have a ton of gruesome pictures that get used in lectures, etc. I really don't want those pictures appearing next to pictures of my wife, kids, and family events. I'd like to have the ability to exclude whole folders from showing up inside that Photo Tab. I like the functional ability to look at large thumbnails of my pictures, but not being able to discriminate/exclude pictures from that field almost makes it dangerous to use Dropbox at all.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who would like to exclude certain pictures from that kind of very public display. Would it be possible to add this feature? If it is possible, can you tell us when it might occur?

Thanks for your help!

I also hope for the same, however, unfortunately Dropbox doesnt release roadmaps of new features so nobody knows when/if this will come.

I have some "Archive" folders of old photos I may still WANT, but I don't want to see all the time.

I'd rather have the Photos browser (on the web interface and the iOS client) only show specific photo folders.

It would be great if in the Web Interface I could ask it to "exclude all photos in this folder (and subfolders) from the Photos browser"

Thank you!

That was a feature in Carousel (now being discontinued at the end of March) so it will likely find it's way in to the regular Dropbox Photos experience.

Hy Rich!

And where will be this Exclude from Timeline feature be in Dropbox? As you said , Carousel will shut down the end of march.

Thanks in advance!

Laki

I can't answer that as it doesn't exist yet. I also said it would likely find it's way to the regular Dropbox Photos experience. That's not a guarantee. Dropbox has stated that many features from Carousel would be ported to Dropbox, but they haven't said exactly which features.

I agree. Please include feature to Exclude a folder from Timeline, not just individual files.

The option to exclude a photo from the timeline actually excludes the entire folder that photo is in. It's always been that way.

I know it's still there but they have always made this so hard to do. Under settings I can see the ones I excluded. Just add to the "..." dropdown on a folder to exclude it. Not by photo thus parent folder.
