Requesting access to a shared folder

I have been using Dropbox Pro for years and am very familiar with inviting people to shared folders. I did not know about, and cannot find any information on the Dropbox help center about, how someone can send me a request for a specific folder I have. I received just such a message from a10-92.smtp-out.amazonses.com so I believe this to be a function within Dropbox. How can someone even SEE a folder to which they don't have access ?

If someone attempts to use an invitation to a shared folder that is no longer valid, they'll get a screen that provides the ability to request access to the folder.

Request access

Clicking the button will send you an email stating that the person is requesting access to the folder.

We had a similar thing happen to our private business dropbox account. A request from a competitor who was never invited in the first place. How was this person able to request a specific folder without ever being invited or given access?

They have received an email link which includes a link/join link.

I have received an email requesting access to a shared folder, and I am unable to find a button to approve the request.  How do I do this?

Interesting, because I'm having this problem now, where someone sent me a folder, and because a different email address was used than the one on my account, I had to "Request Access". How long will this take? Will it require the sender to go to work here, and fill out forms? Will I even hear back from Dropbox today?

I'm going to ask the sender to use WeTransfer. Never had a problem with their service. They've done a great job making it user-friendly.

You know, a live chat would go a long way in terms of customer
service. I'm not buying the paid version until the free version works.
