Unzip/zip a file inside Dropbox

Unzip/zip a file inside Dropbox

Uploading the zipped file to dropbox and unzipping it inside would save a lot of time and traffic for users. Some of the web services already exist for that (like this one http://www.quora.com/Is-there-a-way-to-decompress-a-zip-file-inside-Dropbox), but as they use their own server capacities, they cost money. Unzipping inside the dropbox may be an additional feature inside the dropbox itself. I would even pay for that a little xtra.

What?? There's no way to do this? I thought this was the point of DropBox, so I wouldn't have to download to my hard drive! Please work on this ASAP!!!!!!

+1 Absolutely to this. A must have for a file sharing app.

It would be really nice to be able to go into the Dropbox website or other UI, select a folder or set of files, and do "compress" or "zip".  I'm currently in the process of zipping a bunch of archival material in my Dropbox to reduce file count and that would be a huge help, insteading of having to re-upload a big zip file, then delete the old files.

First visit to the forum for a long-time user. Just received zipped images whilst in hospital with only my mobile. Disappointed this simple functionality isn't available.

I am aware there is already a few posts about this, But I completely agree with Nickolai T. (https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox/Unzip-a-file-inside-dropbox/idi-p/62742)

“Uploading the zipped file to dropbox and unzipping it inside would save a lot of time and traffic for users.“

I put “in iOS” because I am unaware if you can unzip .zip files on Dropbox.com or the Dropbox desktop applications. If you can’t on the desktop applications, Then this would be for those platforms too But I do find myself trying to unzip .zip files a lot on my iPhone & iPad, This is a much much much needed feature.

Thanks for looking, Regards, CrazyOrbitz.

It would be the final stage in filhandling. You download a zipfile to Dropbox, u zip it there if you wish. And ready. That should be the workflow. Now it stops after downloading.

On iOS devices, we often times have .zip files from emails that we need to "unzip" and save into Dropbox for iOS. After unzipping using a third-party zip app, having to individually choose "Save to Dropbox" for each file that was unzipped is repetitive to say the least. It would be nice to have the option to save multiple files to Dropbox for iOS or even better would be integrating an .zip utility inside Dropbox for iOS to unzip the files into a user-selected directory.

Hi, as everyone said, that feature would be great to save time and mobile data consumption. Nearly every week I need to visualize files from zip archives on my phone or via the web browser.

What are you waiting for to put it on your road map!  Thanks
