Hi all

I was using the basic Dropbox; as I installed also the app in my smartphone the company reawarded me with some more space: I think I end up with 5GB or do.

After a couples of years my dad shared with me a folder of his Dropbox pro account. I wrote many notes for both of us with links to documents in subfolders of the shared one. Everything was doing good up to some days ago.

A week ago the  daemon stopped syncing the folders in my linux box.

After digging on the net I end up that I was run out of space! slightly smiling face

I used something more of  5GB and next step was the Pro account, (2TB) which costs 120$ per year.

To save money I decided to mone the notes in GoogleDrive (15GB free with my account), and everything worked

After the check of the links, they showed up in the browser as usual, I asked  my dad to remove the share. Of course all te folder vanish.

BUT AT THIS POINT ALL THE LINKS (both, on my dad's Dropbox, and in my GDrive) STOPPPED WORKING

Is there a  way to have them again? (To not recreate the structure (months of work) I would pay even for thr pro account!)

Thanks

Hello there @mune72; welcome to our Community!

I'm sorry to hear about this. To better grasp the nature of the matter at hand now, I'll just need a screenshot of the exact error you're getting when trying to access the mentioned links. Could you forward me one?

Also, have you tried restoring your access to the shared folder (your Dad should be able to re-add you to that folder normally)?

Last but not least, note that you can always check your account's quota under your account's plan tab: https://www.dropbox.com/account/plan

I hope this helps and I'll be waiting for your reply so we can investigate further.

Schermata da 2019-09-10 12-37-27.pngpage opened by the browser when opening the linkThis is the screenshot of the broswer error; it says 404 meaning that the page is not found. The resource/link was https://www.dropbox.com/ ...  [removed]

Of curse the real document, the one the link point to is still in my dad cloud.

Most likely they're not @mune72 !

Shared links will break (and result to a 404 error) if the file has been deleted from its Dropbox folder. Please have your Dad check to see those files are still located in his Dropbox folder. He should also take a look at the deleted files of his account on the following page: https://www.dropbox.com/deleted_files

Also, be aware that there is a 20GB daily limit on link traffic for Basic accounts, and a 200GB daily limit for paid accounts. Exceeding this limit would disable the account's shared links.

Let me know if this helped!

The files linked to document that was in my cloud (my dad's share actually), and the file is still in his cloud, but now[1], neither him can follow the links in the notes.

[1] now = I asked my father to don't giva the share anymore. As a consequence the Dropbox sync has deleted all the file.

Solutiontion proposed (if it is feasable)

  1. Upgrade my account to a pro one;
  2. Regain the same folder share (the one actually owned by my dad);
  3. Use the 30 days backup.

Does it may work?

PS: forgot. The traffic limit. I think that I didn't reach it, and my father didn't do it for sure.

Theoretically, it should work @mune72!

Just to clarify one point: you won't need to upgrade as all types of accounts (even the ones one the free, Basic plan) have the option to restore files that were deleted up to 30 days ago, from their account's deleted files page or even their events page at: https://www.dropbox.com/events

That being said, I'd suggest taking a look at your account's sharing tab to see if you can add this folder back to your account or ask your Dad to re-invite you to the shared folder in question.

In case you need further assistance with this, please let me know and I'll reach out to your Dropbox associated email address to look into it together.

I reaccepted the share.

The sync worked and repopulted my folder (notes with links and documents).

Now the links work both for my dad and for me.

I haven't used the backup feature.

The issue is over, I'm marking the 3D as solved.

Thanks
