Different version of Office causing editing issues?

Explorer | Level 3

I use Dropbox on my desktop but we also have a shared PC in our conference room. My PC has MS Office 2019 and the shared PC has 2003. When editing a document on the shared PC, Dropbox will not save the changes. It keeps popping up a window over and over asking if you want to save but no matter how many times you click save, it never saves. Is there a way to get around this short of updating Office?

Hi Susan, what type of file are you trying to save, is it a .docx or a .doc file?

Is the file in a shared folder with view-only permissions

Keep me posted!

According to some brief research, Word 2003 needs the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack to be able to amend .docx files, however this might now only work for Word 2007 onwards.

There are some sites that offer this, though it isn’t on the official Microsoft site any more, so we’d recommend caution installing software from an unknown site.

You might need to update that version of Office in order to be able to edit the docs.
