Dropbox Business Selective Sync Conflict issue

New member | Level 2

Hi all,

I use Dropbox Business to Sync files between a number of coworkers PCs.

Yesterday I set up a new PC.

I thought it would be a good idea to copy the Dropbox folder from one of the other PCs to the new one.

That turned out to be a disaster.

After installing Dropbox on the new PC, the number of subfolders in the Dropbox folder doubled.
So I now have folders with names like:

D:\Dropbox\Dropbox\Travel (Selective Sync Conflict)

this folder has some of the files duplicated from this folder:

D:\Dropbox\Dropbox\Travel

My problem now is that I can delete this folder, D:\Dropbox\Dropbox\Travel (Selective Sync Conflict).

But minutes later it reappears, presumably because it is on one or more other PCs.

How can I delete the Selective Sync Conflict folders permanently?

Regards,
Leigh

Hey LeighW, thanks for posting us on the Dropbox Community; happy Monday!

As you’ve mentioned that the accidental move took place just within the last couple of days, let me offer you an account rollback, that will revert your account back to what it looked like before the Dropbox folder copy.

For that reason, I’ve made sure to create a Support Request on our system on your behalf (gathering all info you’ve sent us here), so as to forward your request to a specialized colleague, who’ll restore your account.

Whenever you find some time, please check your inbox for my email & I’ll make sure to promptly follow-up with you & help you resolve this issue asap.

Thanks again & I’ll be awaiting your next email, so as to move forward on the matter together!

Hi Jane,

Thanks for responding.

I think I may have solved the problem.

Can you please hold off taking any action for the time being?

I will see if the conflicted folders continue to be hidden or deleted.

Thanks,

Regards,

Leigh

Jane, two three days ago all my files (a few hundred) in "Governors Island 2018" disappeared and I received a message "whitespace conflict." I have a pc (windows 10) and an Imac (OSX Yosemite.) When I go now to "Governors Island 2018" only a few files show up (less than ten.) How can I get ALL my files back in that folder? [personal information removed by moderation for security reasons]

Hey @joepdek, you may keep in mind that the “White space conflict” message you received is slightly different than the one Leigh has experienced. Let me send you the relevant steps to fix that below & we'll take it from there!

You may keep in mind that white space conflicts occur when there is a trailing space after the file name, but before the file extension, as in “GovernorFile .pages” for example, since there’s a space between "e" and "." This can be resolved by renaming the file as: "GovernorFile.pages".

You can use Dropbox's "Bad Files Check" webpage to determine which files are not syncing due to incompatibilities & in most cases you should be able to resolve the incompatibility by simply renaming the file and omitting the illegal characters. (Extra tip: Here’s a list of known incompatibilities and illegal characters)

Hopefully this points you towards the right direction & please do let me know my advice works for you or in case you need further assistance in any way. Enjoy the rest of your day until we talk again!
