Dropbox on RDS : syncing with wrong NTFS rights

Hello,

We have a non conventionnal Dropbox installation thats runs on a RDS Windows Server 2012 R2. Dropbox runs from an admin account and syncs evrything on C:\Dropbox. Under this folder, all subfolders have been set with custom NTFS rights, granting only selected users to access the data they are authorized to.

This installation have been working like a charm for the past years, but these last 3 days it started acting not as expecting : now, when a new file syncs from the cloud to the Windows RDS Server on a subfolder with custom NTFS rights, this new file is no longer populated with its parent folder rights. Instead, it gets random NTFS rights with no write access for the user.

If, on the other hand, under the same subfolser, I manually create a file from Windows UI : it gets populated with the correct NTFS rights. This leads me to thing that the problem is caused by some new Dropbox feature. Maybe a recent update ? Anyone experiencing this recent unwanted behaviour ?

Hi there @MathieuM, thanks for checking in with us. 

In general, the Dropbox app isn't designed to run on Windows Server and, if you try to share a Dropbox folder over a server, permission issues, like you describe, can happen.
