Dropbox won't open or sync from desktop, but works fine on laptop

One day this week, Dropbox stopped opening on my desktop and also stopped syncing from my desktop. It is working fine on my laptop, syncing normally, etc.

Both my laptop and desktop are Macs. What can I try to fix the problem of Dropbox not functioning on the desktop?

Hey @JM21, if I had a shot in the dark, I’d suspect that you missed our last update that was released just a few hours ago (71.4.108). Having said that, I’d recommend unlinking & relinking your account to your desktop once, as it recreates the local database. If you’re still facing an issue, would you mind giving our latest Offline installer a try after disabling your Antivirus/Firewall?

  • Stop Dropbox (if needed) by clicking the Dropbox icon in the menu bar on the top of your screen. >Click on the gear icon in the Notifications panel and select "Quit Dropbox". 
  • Delete the Dropbox application from the Applications folder. You may need to provide your computer password in order to perform this action. 
  • Reinstall the Dropbox desktop application following these steps:
  • Open the Dropbox .dmg file and double click the Dropbox icon. Dropbox should appear in your menu bar.
