File listing displays for an instant and then disappears

Explorer | Level 3

In several years of Dropbox use I never had this problem before.

I can navigate through a folder hierarchy and see the folders at every level.  But when I click on a folder containing files, the filenames display for an instant and then disappear.

Tried this on several folders - same result.

Tried logging out of Dropbox and back in - same result.

Mac OS 10.12.6

Chrome 74.0.3729.131

Hey there @CHS224,

That does indeed sound like strange behaviour! Would you be able to try this through another browser for me or with a private/incognito window to see if the issue persists? If not, can you also try clearing your browsers cache and try viewing the folder structure again.

Let me know how it goes - Thanks!

Re: File listing displays for an instant and then disappears

Explorer | Level 3

Hi Daphne,

I thought I replied, but based on the display maybe it didn't register. Here is a second try.

Thanks for those suggestions. Here are the results:

  1. Use existing browser (Chrome) with an Incognito window: Failed.
  2. Use a different browser (Safari): Succeeded.
  3. Clear the cache in the existing browser (Chrome). The blue text "Learn more about clearing a browser's cache" on the help page whose link you provided was not active. So I simply took Chrome's basic cache clearning option which goes back 4 weeks. Were you suggesting something more comphrehensive? I then saved the state of the windows and tabs, closed Chrome, reopened it and restored the windows and tabs (using Session Buddy). But to no avail as this course of action failed.

Some of the folders in the hierarchy of interest will display their files. But others, including the one that generated the query, will not.

Cheers.

Hey again @CHS224,

Could you just clarify for me if you see perhaps only the text displaying on the web page or does it appear that nothing loads on the screen? Would you mind sharing a screenshot (excluding any personal info) of exactly what you see?

Looking forward to your reply - Thanks!

Re: File listing displays for an instant and then disappears

Hi Daphne,

There is nothing personal in the attached screen shots. I'm using Dropbox to manage grants my classmates and I give to students at the high school from which we graduated.

Attachment "Approved.jpeg" shows the folders for each of the grants approved this school year.

Attachment "006 Wetlands Institute.jpeg" should show the files for that grant. The listing of files loads, but just for a second or two. Then it disappears.

Attachment "008 Mosaic Magazine.jpeg" shows what a file listing should look like.

However, when I went to capture that screen shot, sometimes the file listing displayed; sometimes it did not. More generally, it seems that as soon as I move the mouse the display disappears.

Thanks again.

Hey @CHS224,

I’d like to have one of our specialists have a look at this with you, would you mind if I reach out to the email address associated with your Community profile through our Support channel?

If you already have a ticket open with our team about this, please feel free to let me know the ticket reference number so that I can follow up there (eg.#1234567).

Thanks!

PS. I edited the screenshots you kindly provided just to be on the safe side! In this case the file names are not too relevant to understanding the issue.

Hi Daphne,

Yes - a good idea to bring in a specialist. Thanks for suggesting. Certainly, Dropbox can use my email address in my Community profile.

No - I had not opened a ticket as I thought I would try the Community first.

Cheers.
