If your files are reappearing when you delete them from your Dropbox folder on your desktop, its often due to another connected device using these files. So when your desktop app is syncing the changes, it’s not able to remove the files on the device that’s using them, so they sync back to your Dropbox folder.
To see if this is the case, can you check the version history of one of the files that reappeared? Do you see the file being accessed by another computer then you can delete the file off that computer to stop it from appearing again.
Otherwise, you can close the app using the files on the other device or turn off the device altogether to continue working on your Mac as you wanted to.
