How can I remove local copies of folders to free up hard drive space?

Level 3

I am using DropBox Plus on my Macbook Pro (OS: High Sierra 10.13.6) and wish to free up some disc space on my laptop by deleting local copies only of some DropBox folders I have shared with others. How do I do this from my Finder on the Mac?

You want to use Selective Sync within Dropbox Preferences to remove the local copy of select folders.

I tried following those instructions but no use as I don’t see any Preferences option when I click on the gearwheel icon in my Finder menu after I have highlighted the folder I wish to delete. What am I doing wrong?

You don't do it on the folder in Finder. You have to open Dropbox Preferences and go to the Sync tab.
