I have a question about sharing a folder among family members. Any ideas?

New member | Level 2

My family and I want to create a Photobook for my wife. Ideally I want us all to upload to a single folder on (free) Dropbox and decide on shortlist for book.

Effectively this means we are all using a single account and folder in Dropbox. I know a long way round - each of us has their own Dropbox account, uploads their photos and shares full access to their folder, but that means (in my case) 4 accounts each with a folder of suggested photos. I could download each contibution and then upload these to my folder but that seems a long way round.

Any simpler way of sharing all the suggested photos on a single account/folder?

Hey there @imcandrew - how are you today?

I understand that using multiple accounts to do this might no be ideal, but, for security reasons, sharing an account with others is something we don't recommended. Sharing your Dropbox password with others also violates the Dropbox Terms of Service

So at this point, that you have all members of your family create their own account and then use a shared folder to invite them all. If you'd only like them to upload to a specific folder, you can open up a file request from your own account and have them upload there. In that case, all they'd need is an email address, a web browser and connection to the internet.

I hope this helps and please let me know how my suggestions work out for you when you get the chance. Oh and happy July!

Hi Walter

Thanks for the prompt reply and helpful suggestions. And the tactful warning re sharing an account password and Terms of Service! An obvious solution to my request which I had considered but suspected was probably not allowed!

I'll have a look atthe article you suggest and l;et you know how I get on.

Happy 2019! Think big!!!

Thank you for your swift and kind reply too Ian - most appreciated!

Take your time to review my suggestions and don't hesitate to get back to me with the results (if it's not too much to ask).

In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your day!
