Is a file I share with another user always compressed?

Collaborator | Level 10

Hi there,

I am checking if I share a 20GB file through a Dropbox link, when the person downloads the file through the link, would it be compressed?

I have a user that is sharing files through links and he saids the size of the file is reduced when the other party downloads through the link.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Download file through shared link

Hey there @mxoh
In general, if it’s a shared file or a link to a file, then it should download as is. If it’s a shared folder or a link to a folder, the folder should download as compressed. You can find more info about this here
However, if the file is being downloaded smaller in size, could you please ask them to:
  • Check the settings of the browser that they are downloading from?
  • Try another browser and/or incognito mode?
Let me know how it goes!
