Keeping files by "date added"

New member | Level 2

is there a way to keep the files by "date added" that is, when i open my dropbox I'd like them to open by date added and not have to go to Finder-Action-Sort by buttons every time. A Mac user.

Thank you!

Hi @PrincipePio, welcome to the Dropbox Community!

I'd be more than happy to help look into this with you, I just need a bit more info. For example:

  • Does this happen every time you refresh Finder or reboot your computer?
  • Do you experience this after changing the sorting options in another folder?
  • Could you let me know what the Dropbox icon that's next to your computer's clock shows when you hover over it?

Let me know what you find!

Yes it happens every time I refresh Finder or reboot

No generally to the second

The icon at the top of the computer is a small black Dropbox icon

I believe the problem is with making it the "default" in Finder, but somehow I've messed up Dropbox and have it attached to 2 "Documents" folders, one I made years ago when I knew no better and the one that comes with the Mac software.

Its a small inconvenience since I can just change it in the moment but you know how it is wanting things organized

Thank you

Thanks for getting back to me, @PrincipePio

Hmm. thinking face Out of curiosity, could you try quitting the desktop app to see if the behavior persists? You can do this by:

  • Clicking on the Dropbox icon in your menu bar.
  • Selecting your profile picture or initials to the right of the search bar.
  • Clicking on Quit Dropbox.

If the issue does persist, this would most probably mean that the cause is related to something outside of the desktop app's function and you might have to check other apps or components of your OS that could be causing this.

In any case, let me know of any updates!
