New dropbox user - problems with viewing files uploaded (multi-platform)

Hi,

We just started using Dropbox as a file-share solution in our company. I uploaded some files to my local Mac Team Dropbox folder, but my employer (using a Windows PC) cannot see everything I uploaded in this folder. He can, however, see the files on the online Dropbox.

 

Any ideas why this is happening? We also did a trial where he made a folder and uploaded a file from his PC and I'm able to see both the file and folder on my Mac.

Hey there @JeanPOV,

It sounds like you might have some incompatible characters in the names of the files that aren't syncing down to the PC. You can find a list of these characters from our Help Center article here.

You can check out this link here which will scan your account for these and let you know the issue with the file name so that you can amend it. Removing these characters will allow the files to then sync to the PC.

Hi Daphne, we tried to make another folder and add in a file without any incompatible characters in either of them (on the Mac). Again, it's not showing up on the PC.

Hey @JeanPOV,

Can you let me know if you see this test folder on the website from both accounts? Also, please let me know the current sync status of the desktop apps on each computer. This should help us to identify where the issue is occurring.
