Remove a shared folder without permanently removing access?

New member | Level 2

How can I remove a folder from my Dropbox that has been shared with me (I am not the owner), without permanently removing my access to it? I might want to add it back to my Dropbox later on.

Hey there @parrotjungle,

To remove a shared folder from your account temporarily you can simply delete the shared folder from your account. Please note, you shouldn’t delete the content of the folder as this would reflect for all other members, just delete the folder itself.

You’ll then be able to add it back at any time (providing you have space in your account) from your Sharing tab here.

Let me know if you have any other questions - Cheers!

Unsyncing

New member | Level 2

I'm a designer and a client shared a folder with me on dropbox. I synced it to my desktop, but now the client is putting a lot of stuff in there that I don't want to have on my computer or in my dropbox. How do I remove myself from this folder?

Hey there @pootychop,

Just as a side note, I've merged your post here as it pertains to the same topic.

As the solution here mentions, you can simply delete the folder from your Dropbox account. You'll be able to see the folder in your Sharing tab, but it won't be taking space in your account.

If you want to permanently remove your access to the folder then from the Sharing tab online, you can click the "..." next to the folder and choose to "Remove access".

I hope this helps - Thanks!
