Renamed group folder still shows previous name for some team members

Helpful | Level 5

We use Dropbox for Business. I am an admin. There are 10 users on our team. I went into my admin console, selected Content, and then located and renamed two folders. For reasons that aren't relevent to this discussion, I wound up changing the folder names back to the original folder names 24 hours later. For clarity, here is the series of events:

Folder name "Current Jobs 2016-18" > was renamed "Current Jobs" > then renamed "Current Jobs 2016-18".

Follow me so far? OK, a couple of team members are still seeing the new name "Current Jobs" in both the Dropbox App and Windows Explorer more than 24 hours after I changed it back to the old name "Current Jobs 2016-18". These are actual Dropbox for Business team members on this account, not people with whom the folder has been shared. When they log into Dropbox.com they see the correct name. The problem is on their local machines. These machines are connected to the internet constantly, and their Dropbox is set to Smart Sync. For most of the team everything is fine.

What would cause this problem? What should I do to fix it?

They see the contents of the folder and if new items are placed in the folder, they see those.

Hi @lw1234567; thanks for posting your first question on our Community!

It sounds like the desktop app that's installed on the affected computers is acting up a tad as it doesn't seem to reflect the recent changes you mentioned.

As a first step here, could you (or the affected members directly) reboot ore simply re-install the desktop app on those machines and let me know if they now see those changes reflected within their local file-structure?

Should the issue persist, I'd appreciate a screenshot of the desktop app showing 'up to date' and another one showing the same folder as it shows on the web and one of how it looks like on their computer within their Dropbox folder.

Keep me posted please!

It appears to have caught up now. I went to her Dropbox system tray icon and opened Dropbox.com by clicking the little earth-shaped icon at the top of that Dropbox popup window. I think going into Dropbox.com specifically that way rather than just opening it from her web browser directly (had done that earlier) caused Drobox to sync that folder name, because it was still wrong before I did that and then it was instantly right in Windows Explorer and the app right after.

When I clicked the tray icon I did not notice whether it said "up to date" or not, though it does say that now.  I wonder if, perhaps, Selective Sync might have had a little hiccup. If she didn't open anything within or save anything to that folder since I made the name change, perhaps her Selective Sync failed to detect the change I made until I gave it that little nudge? Food for thought.

Anyway, thanks for your input!

Thanks for keeping me in the loop @lw1234567!

While I won't be able to speculate what could have caused this, I'm glad to hear it's sorted now.

If you ever stumble across a similar hiccup, please feel free to give us a nudge here; we're only a post away!

Have a wonderful and relaxing weekend!
