2018 Macbook air - Dropbox - using up hard drive space

I have a 2018 MacBook Air and used DropBox Business. I use Smart Sync to keep most files online unless I need them on my laptop. I am not constantly getting the message that my hard drive is full. 

I have read for several years about this ongoing problem. Other than deleting and reinstalling DropBox, I have not seen a solution. I did in fact delete and reinstall, and the issue returned. Is there an actual fix out there?

Hi! I had the same issue on my Mac and I did the following and it solved my issue.

  • Click on the Dropbox icon in your top bar (drop down will appear)
  • Click on your picture right corner
  • Click on "Preferences" (pop-up will appear)
  • Click on "Sync" in the top right
  • Underneath "Selective Sync", click "Choose folders to sync"
  • Uncheck the folders that are taking up a lot of space and/or folders that you don't need on your local computer all the time. It will take a few minutes for the folders to un-sync from your computer.

This has nothing to do with the issue. “Selective Sync” and “Smart Sync” are 2 totally different features. You should remove this response from this thread as it will just confuse people.
