Telstra NBN (Australia) upload speed to Dropbox is intolerable.

Helpful | Level 6

Since switching from Telstra BigPond cable to Telstra NBN (HFC Tier 100) two days ago, upload speed to Dropbox has dropped to virtually zero.

Is anyone else on HFC in Australia having a similar issue?

Hey @outwardspiral. Happy Friday!

I am writing here to to have this back to the top of the Community home page and hopefully other Australian users will jump in your thread and share their experience. I can suggest to set your Dropbox bandwidth to unlimited if you haven't already: https://help.dropbox.com/installs-integrations/sync-uploads/faster-sync

Make sure to reboot your device and be on the latest stable version of Dropbox.

Please let me know if your Internet speed is only effecting Dropbox at this point.

Thank you!

Thanks Fiona for the reply.

After further testing I can confirm that the upload issue is not related to Telstra NBN and there are no upload issues in any other applications other than Dropbox.

Upload issues are only happening on this computer with the Dropbox desktop app (reinstalling has no affect) and Dropbox in Chrome browser. However, Dropbox in Microsoft Edge browser works fine.

Another computer on the same network has no issues with the Dropbox desktop app or Chrome browser.

I appreciate the additional info @outwardspiral

I will also need:

  1. A screenshot showing your speed: http://www.speedtest.net
  2. A screenshot of your bandwidth settings.
  3. The number of files you are syncing.
  4. A confirmation you don't have Symlinks.
  5. The version of Dropbox you are running at the time.

Thanks!

Ok, I've discovered the cause of the problem.

These are my computer's network adapters:

Killer E2400 Gigabit Ethernet Controller

Killer Wireless-n/a/ac 1535 Wireless Network Adapter

The software/driver package includes Killer Control Center, an application that allows prioritisation of tasks that use the internet via a feature called Advanced Stream Detect. As you can see in the screenshot below, Dropbox has top priority and is not throttled.

KCC_Apps.JPG

Now, when I turn off Advanced Stream Detect, all tasks are no longer prioritised or throttled by Killer Control Center, and uploading to Dropbox is no longer affected.
