Turn selective sync folders into smart sync?

Level 2

Hello!

I hope this question hasn't been answered before, I couldn't find it.
My situation is that I used to have tons of folders on "selective sync" in the past, and I was happy to hear that you've introduced "smart sync" now so I can continue to see those files on my computer. I wanted to activate smart sync, but it wouldn't let me without completely reinstalling Dropbox, which I did. Then it had sadly forgotten all my selective sync settings, and tried to download everything to my computer, which isn't possible - and it wouldn't react to me marking those folders as smart sync, so I had to make them selective sync again. So far so good, at least I have access to the smart sync feature now.

My question is now this: How can I turn a folder from selective sync to smart sync? Because I can't mark it as smart sync in my local folder - it's not there, it's only online. Downloading everything first isn't really possible for me, because I don't have the space. Is there no way to select folders for smart sync in the same way it was done for selective sync, i.e. in the desktop client?

Cheers, Hendrik

Go into Dropbox Preferences and change the Make new files dropdown field to Online-only. Once that's done and you've applied the change, go into Selective Sync and check the folders that you want to add back to your comptuer. They'll be added back as Online-only.
