Hi there @rbb2

In general, the desktop app will only sync files and folders placed inside of the Dropbox folder. However, could the behavior you’re experiencing be due to symlinks by any chance?

Symlinks refer to data in locations outside of the Dropbox folder and, in order to ensure the performance of the desktop app, we recommend that you remove them. If you're not sure if you have symlinks in your Dropbox folder, follow the steps outlined here (in step 7). If you find

It turned out that there were files that I WAS synching that contained some of my applications...These tend to have a large number of small files and can take a long time.  so make sure you are not synching files that were buried somewhere in your dropox folder.
