using DB to create slideshow on remote monitor

New member | Level 2

We are installing up a large flat screen monitor in the common area of our builiding to display upcoming events and annoucments. Because of the way the monitor had to be installed, it is driven by a Mac located in closet that is hard to access.

I was wondering if this would work:

run Powerpoint or someother slideshow software on the Mac, with the ppt file in a dropbox.

When needeed, login into the dropbox from another computer, and remove or add slides to the ppt file as needed. Will it sync automatically and update?

Perhaps this is more of a PPT question that DB?

Hi there @ipswichclam, I hope you're having a good day so far!

When the file is open to present the slideshow, if updates are made to the file on another device then Dropbox won't be able to sync the updates while the file is still open.

You'll end up with conflicted copies being created if you edit the file from another device I'm afraid, so this wouldn't work out.

There wouldn't be a way to update the file while it's open and playing without creating conflicted copies.

Sorry that I couldn't provide a work around for you, but there may be others here who have some suggestions for you.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Just install some remote control software on the computer, such as Teamviewer or Anydesk, and you can easily interact with it and update the slideshow as needed, without having direct access to the computer in the closet.
