Re: Dropbox doesn't load after Windows 10 1803 update

Level 4

The post by Walt3R about 'advanced re-install' finally got my pc Dropbox working again - re-installing over the old version did not work.

But I did notice a problem after travelling - my laptop Dropbox survived its Windows update on the road. Several files were edited and presumably uploaded to Dropbox.com - I didn't notice any problems or error messages.  After I got home and got my office PC's Dropbox re-installed properly,  one of its older files was synced everywhere rather than the edited file on my laptop. Fortunately, I published the file to a website .  After I noticed the discrepancy, I could not find any archived file newer than December. Still trying to figure it out and searching for other changes that may have been lost.

Did your desktop app on your laptop state "Up to date" after uploading your files?

First off, glad to hear my suggestion to perform an advanced re-install worked for you.

As per your query now, what you described can happen when the files haven't been uploaded correctly or just yet since syncing can take some time depending on the size of the data you're trying to sync across your devices. You can see more about the syncing icons on files here. Another thing that could cause such issues is the files' names as there might be some incompatible characters . You can use our look-up tool to detect such files within your Dropbox account.

An additional note on this Pat: If you have successfully uploaded a file to your account, you should be able to find it performing a simple search while on the web. Also, these kind of changes are logged in your events page so you can also check there to see if the files you mention were actually uploaded to your account.

I hope this information helps clear this up and I remain at your disposal Pat. Should you have any further questions on this, let me know and I will reach out to you via email so we can have a look into it internally with all of our tools available as well.

Thanks in advance for your response and kindly updating me on this matter.

Cheers!
