I have a question about the (hidden) .dropbox file on my computer. Can you help?

Level 7

I am running 29.4.20 on Windows 10. In the root directory of Dropbox there is a file named .Dropbox

What is that? Can I delete it?

Thanks.

Hey @Pete G.3

I would leave these hidden files be, as the contain information about your root and shared folders. Deleting them may lead to duplicate, and removal from, shared folders. Here’s a bit more info.

Thanks!

I understand, but "Hidden Files" is unchecked in File Explorer so why is this file visible? Thanks.

Hmm… thinking face

Can you do a couple of things for me:
  1. show hidden files, and check to see if there is another one of these .dropbox files in thers
  2. when hidden files are not shown, check the properties of the .dropbox file and see if the Hidden attribute is checked or not
Let me know!
