Reinstalling Dropbox for new Dropbox account. Can't find and place Dropbox folder

Level 2

I deleted Dropbox app (personal) and all files that I could identify as Dropbox on my Mac running the current OS.  They are still in my Trash. [Dropbox app, Dropbox 60.2.ipa, Dropbox Copy(folder alias), Dropboxinstaller.dmg (Oct 25, 2015).  I then downloaded a new copy of the Dropbox app with the intent of connecting it to a different Dropbox (my wife's) and permanently abandoning my Dropbox account. I ran the installer.  When I try to open the app I get a Dropbox Folder Missing message that tells me I have to move that folder back to its original location which was "at:/Users/Sam/Dropbox".  How do I locate the Dropbox folder it wants?  When I locate it how do I place it where the app wants it to be. Detailed instructions for a layman would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there @RestonVA43, did you unlink your account prior to re-installing so as to link your wife's account instead?

Could you maybe post a screenshot of the exact error you get so that I can get a better understanding of the matter at hand?

Let me know what you find and we'll take it from there.

To answer your question first, no I did not "unlink" at any time that I know of.  I didn't/don't know what unlinking is or how to do it.

Here is a screen shot of the message that pops up when I attempt to open the newly downloaded version of Dropbox from my drive apps.

Thanks for the swift reply @RestonVA43  - much appreciated.

Could you please try unlinking your account now and then linking your wife's?

Follow these steps to unlink a computer:

1) Right-click the Dropbox icon in the menu bar
2) Click on the gear icon in the Notifications panel and select 'Preferences' > 'Account'
3) Click the 'Unlink' button
4) Afterward, Dropbox will prompt you to re-register. Quit!

You can now safely move or delete files in the Dropbox folder and not affect anything else.

Note that the Dropbox folder itself is still there. If you relink to a different Dropbox account, the application will detect that another Dropbox folder already exists on the computer, and will give you two options: 'Choose Another Location' or 'Install'.

If, on one hand, you'd like your new Dropbox folder to be in a location different than your existing folder, click on 'Choose Another Location'.

If you want your new Dropbox folder to be in the same location as your existing one, click on 'Install'. This will rename the existing Dropbox folder to 'Dropbox (Old)' and will create a new Dropbox folder for the account you’re currently linking.

Let me know how it goes!
