Thanks for your help. I've sent a ticket but now I have figured out a way to solve my problem: Install an older version of Dropbox (30.4.22) and VOILA! The case has been resolved.
I think the reason that is the latest version of Dropbox. Hope you can fix these problems as soon as possible.
I'm also encountering this problem. I'm using a fresh Win8.1 reinstall.
First time I tried installing Dropbox, I made a dumb move and restarted my PC mid-installation process (another program asked me to), not sure if that's the cause of my issues.
Eitherway, now every time I run the installer (offline version too), I get error 2.
Made sure the AppData and Program Files folders didnt have anything dropbox related in them, restarted PC, still get error 2.
It kindof feels like there's some corrupted registry key somewhere that the installer fails to read/write to? Couldn't find on though. Just my guess.
Dropbox.exe crashlog (from %APPDATA%/Dropbox) incase it matters:
I found a solution that corrected my "Error 2" installation problem. The root cause appears to be a Registry key permissions issue. I recommend the following steps.
If multiple people log into the computer with different credentials, you will need to edit each person's registry key.
After restarting the computer KS2 through KS10 registry keys appear, each one with broken inheritance permissions, which were then manually adjusted. I've tested with both Dropbox 32.4.23 Offline Installer.exe and DropboxInstaller.exe
Support contacted me and additional information was provided. Hopefully they'll see this post as well.
