New member | Level 2

Recently, dropbox on my PC stopped working. The dropbox process would run in the background but nothing would show up.I tried to uninstall it but am getting an error "Dropbox failed to uninstall". In more details i can see that the version is 66.4.84 and the faulting module is Kernelbase.dll.I am logged in as administrator.Tried uninstalling from Programfiles -> Dropbox->Client->Dropboxuninstaller.exe but it still fails with the same error.

I am stuck.Please help.

Re: Can't uninstall dropbox - Windows 7

Hey there (@nitinbwj), as you’ve mentioned that you’re currently facing an issue uninstalling our desktop app (& you've already tried uninstalling it with admin rights), I’d suggest repeating the steps once in the order relayed below:
More information
Reinstalling the latest version of the Dropbox can fix the uninstall process.
#1. Download the Dropbox app. The installer downloads automatically.
#2. Double-click the downloaded file.
#3. After the install completes, click the Dropbox icon in the system tray.
#4. Click the gear icon.
#5. Click Quit Dropbox
#6. Try to uninstall Dropbox again.

If the app still won’t uninstall, follow these steps to manually uninstall:
#1. Open Windows File Explorer.
#2. Copy this line and paste it into the address bar. Press Enter.

#3. In “Program Files,” open the “Dropbox” folder, then open the “Client”folder.
#4. In “Client,” you should see a file named DropboxUninstaller.exe. Double-click this file to run the uninstaller.

If the uninstaller fails or doesn’t launch, try running the uninstaller as an administrator:
#1. Right-click DropboxUninstaller.exe.
#2. Select Run as Administrator
#3. Enter the computer admin username and password when prompted.
#4. Follow the the steps in the uninstaller.
Please do let me know of the results you get this time on your end, in order to find a viable way to get to the bottom of this discrepancy; looking forward to your next reply on this discussion!

Super User

As a last resort, if the above steps don't work, you can also try manually deleteing the files from C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox (or wherever the program is installed) and then uninstalling it through Programs and Features.

That method isn't usually recommended because it can cause other issues, but sometimes it works when nothing else does.
