If I want to have both an individual and business desktop app folders on my computer desktop, do I have to install the app twice? How does it work?

Thank you.

Hey there Meg, it's been a while since I last heard from you; how are you today?

From what I understand you're wondering how linking a team account and an individual one works in regards to the desktop application, right?

To directly address your concern on this, no, you won't need to install the app twice, you'll only need to link the individual account after you've installed and logged into your team account. Read on for more information.

To connect your personal and work Dropbox please follow these steps:

  1. Log in to https://www.dropbox.com/ with your Dropbox Business account login.
  2. Click on your name in the top right corner.
  3. Click “Connect your personal Dropbox”.

You'll be asked if you already have a personal Dropbox account. If you do, please sign in to your account or if you don't, you'll be given the option to create a personal account.

Follow the instructions to download the Dropbox desktop application and start using both your personal and work accounts on your computer.

For any new employees that join your Dropbox Business account, they'll have the option to connect their personal and work Dropbox accounts while joining your team.

Lastly, you can always use our Help Center article for a walkthrough on connecting your accounts: https://help.dropbox.com/business/connect-personal-work-account

I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi Walter,

Thank you for your reply.

Actually, I had already connected both my personal account and business account.

You will see how two DB icons are shown on my screen (one for personal, the other for business) from the link below, but I just can't remember how I did it.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/hbtjj8bgkq3notf/Inked%E3%82%B9%E3%82%AF%E3%83%AA%E3%83%BC%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B...

I know it sounds silly, but can you please tell me how I managed to do this?

First of all, did I do anything wrong? Is there another way to manage two folders?

Please let me know.

Thanks.

Oh, I see now Meg. These are mere shortcuts for both of your Dropbox folders - not the real folders themselves. If you open your computer's folder structure you should be able to view both of those Dropbox Folders normally.

As per how you managed to do this in the first place, I guess you followed the steps outlined in the Help Center article below:

https://help.dropbox.com/business/pair-accounts-all-devices

If there's anything that's still unclear, please let me know Meg; I'll do my best to follow up and address your questions and concerns asap.

Walter,

Don't hate me, but one more question.

As you mentioned, I found the actual DB folders in my folder structure, but I don't know how I can show them on my desktop instead of showing short cut ones.

Please see the link below. I don't know why only the short cut s are shown on my desktop at this moment.

Short cuts are ok, but I would rather show my actual folders when I teach.

Thanks.

They are there from what I can tell when looking at your quick access menus in your screenshot Meg. Note that by default, the Dropbox folder is located in your user folder (also shown in your screenshot).

If you're somehow trying to move your Dropbox folder to another locationother than the default one (your computer's user's profile), please take a look at the following page:  https://www.dropbox.com/help/desktop-web/move-dropbox-folder

I think you'll also find useful the following Help Center article:

https://help.dropbox.com/desktop-web/locate-dropbox-folder

Specifically note that in addition to creating a shortcut to the Dropbox folder, you can also go straight to the default location using Explorer (Windows). To do this, simply open Windows Explorer and type %HOMEPATH%/Dropbox into the address bar.

Let me know if I'm missing something here @jazzmeg1 nerd face

Thank you for the link. I think it is now showing the actual folders. I went to the DB icon on the system tray and change the setting on the Preference > Sync page.

Can you please take a look at my desktop to see if it looks ok?

Thank you!!

Spot on Meg - that's exactly right; these are the real folders - great job visualing this too (I always think screenshots speaks for themselves)!

On a last note, you can also change your bandwidth settings to boost the syncing process, in case you need to that is.

Cheers!
