Hey there (@bajabulla), that’s an interesting report & I’ll do my best to follow-up with you on our discussion here; thanks for writing us about it on the Dropbox Community!

For starters, can you clarify if you’re facing this issue in a working network? Are you getting any error messages on your end when this happens incidentally? If so, I’d appreciate it if you included a screenshot (omitting personal info) in your next reply here, so as to get a better idea of what’s happening. Have you by any chance tried to work on that on your end? What were the results?

Once I have this info, I’ll try to address your initial inquiry in a bit more depth. Thanks in advance for the time you’re devoting on that & I’ll be awaiting your next message on this discussion!

This reply format does not respond when I go to upload a screenshot for you to view.

I am not on a network and have tried everything I can think of to stop this from happening.

Thanks for reaching back to me here (@bajabulla)! Kindly note you can use the Upload photo functionality, as you can see on the screenshot below:

From there, would you mind letting me know what steps you've already tried on your own, as I'd like to take that into consideration before planning our course of action moving forward?

Following, I may have missed your notification (@Cedriw) however I'll do my best to follow-up on any issues you may be experiencing from this point on (& that's why I'm pinging you back here). Could you include a bit more detail on what this looks like on your end if it's not too much trouble for you?

Thanks again to both!

I am having the same issue. Every time I click the application it appears as though it needs to reinstall before opening. The Dropbox Installer pops up with a loading bar and message reading, "Downloading Dropbox" and then "Installing Dropbox and Dropbox Update". Then, I get the notification on my Mac that Dropbox is now installed -- which I believe should already be the case. Please let me know if you can help. Also, I was having difficulty attaching a photo to this message (how do I upload a photo after selecting the camera tool?). Thank you in advance.

Hey @andrewj, what you’re describing sounds odd indeed, however I’m here to help you with that as much as I can on my end!

Now if you click on the Spoiler in my previous message Andrew, you should be able to see the relevant steps to attach a screenshot on a message here (i.e. you can either Drag & Drop or go through the Photos option, where you should be shown a prompt where you can Choose Files from your device). Please include any screensgrabs you’ve gathered for me (without personal info please) in your next message; these are always helpful.

If you’re also experiencing this issue on a Mac as the OP, I’d suggest giving our latest Offline installer a try after disabling your Antivirus/Firewall:

More information
  • Stop Dropbox (if needed) by clicking the Dropbox icon in the menu bar on the top of your screen. >Click on the gear icon in the Notifications panel and select "Quit Dropbox".
  • Delete the Dropbox application from the Applications folder. You may need to provide your computer password in order to perform this action.
  • Reinstall the Dropbox desktop application following these steps:
  • Open the Dropbox .dmg file and double click the Dropbox icon. Dropbox should appear in your menu bar.
Please have a look at my recommendations at your earliest convenience & let me know how you get on with my advice or if I’ve misunderstood your initial description in any way. Thanks for taking a bit of time to work on that with me & I'm looking forward to hearing back from you with the results!
