Dropbox Cloud Not Matching Local Used Amount

Helpful | Level 5

Dropbox online (and on the desktop app) says I am using .91TB and locally it's only .68TB.

Smart sync has everything with filled in green check mark. My dropbox icon says "up to date"

support chat says if the icon says that then everything is synced.

I need all .91TB of my files synced locallyl, not just 75% of them

I've been paying for dropbox for 4 years and for a few years in the middle I was having to delete larger video shoot files because my storage was maxed out.

I'm thinking the worse but hoping maybe it's something I am missing.

Re: Dropbox Cloud Not Matching Local Used Amount

Hey there @travis k.1,
So there’s a few things we can check that may have caused the discrepancy you see in the space taken locally.
Firstly, I’d suggest checking your account for any bad file names as certain characters in the file/folder names can prevent them syncing to your desktop due to OS restrictions. You can check for these bad characters automatically from this link here.
If this doesn’t resolve the issue then you can also check your selective sync settings in the desktop app preferences, possibly you’ve selected some folders to not sync to your desktop at some point in the past. To do so, you can:
  1. Click the Dropbox icon in your system tray/menu bar.
  2. Click the profile pic/initials icon in the top right of the small window.
  3. Choose Preferences… from the menu.
  4. Go to the Sync tab and click the Selective sync option.
  5. Ensure that all folders are checked (or the “Select all” box above is checked).
Let me know what you find with these steps - Thanks!
