Dropbox telling me it can't sync files

Helpful | Level 5

I'm running Dropbox on OpenSuse Linux. For the last couple of days it's telling me it can't sync various files. The file names change, though it will eventually stick on one file. I'm having no problems connecting to the website, and my iPad has no problems.

Some files are being synced, so it doesn't seem to be a firewall problem or similar. And I've tried obvious things such as rebooting the PC and rebooting the router.

The files that are being synced only do this after a long delay, which is the really annoying thing. I'm used to files being avaliable from iPad to PC or vice versa almost immediately.

Further investigation shows that it is quite happily uploading files when I use the web site to manually tell it to do so. So this seems to be a problem with the program on my PC communicating with Dropbox.

This is totally bizarre. I unlinked my PC from Dropbox and linked it again. This was to try to get it to resync from scratch. Once it relinked, after a long while syncing it told me that it couldn't synce to my PC as access was denied.

The number of files to downoad and upload is huge, and the notifivation  suggests nothing is happening. Yet files are being uploaded and downloaded.

It seems that Dropbox is working yet giving error messages to suggest that it isn't. Any explanation? Any solution to this?

Hi @JohnGeoffrey W.

First off I dont use Linux at all so these are more 'generic' possibilities I can think of...

Can you check you are not using any sort of symlinks or junctions?

Also make sure theres no issue with permissions etc.

Thanks @Mark , less for what you wrote but more for the thinking you prompted. Clearly the problems is about permissions, but I couldn't think what would need permissions.  After piondering this, it occurred to me that ~/.dropbox was the likely folder. So I opened it up to the world and, suddenly things started working. I unlinked and relinked to get thin gs started again and now everything is working hunky dory.
