Duplicate dropbox folders? Can i delete one?

New member | Level 2

I had a trouble desribing this problem but here goes..

I currently have two base dropbox folders on my mac. (see picture)

Skærmbillede 2020-01-22 kl. 11.09.36.pngEdited by moderator

The one in the bottom acts like a dropbox folder, i can smart sync, context menu appears when i right click etc.

The other one called just 'Dropbox' looks like a dropbox file but context menu does not appear as well as sync icons. I am afraid to delete it if it is something online, but i cant unsync it as it does not appear in my sync settings? Maybe it is just a local partition of an earlier dropbox sync?

Have anyone else encountered this problem? Whats the solve?

Hey @softbody, I'd be more than happy to help with this!

We can check exactly which folder is syncing from the desktop app preferences. You can access this by:

  1. Clicking the Dropbox icon in your menu bar.
  2. Click the profile pic/initials icon in the top right of the window.
  3. Choose "Preferences..."
  4. Go to the "Sync" tab.
  5. Check the "Dropbox folder location"

Please just note, if you have 2 Dropbox accounts syncing, then you'll see 2 options at the top of the Sync tab window for "Business" and "Personal".

If you don't see this, then you only have one account syncing to the app. If "Spine Studio Dropbox" is shown as the folder location, you can remove the "Dropbox" folder.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

Hello Daphne, thank you for your help. Skærmbillede 2020-01-22 kl. 14.04.14.png

The dropbox Folder location just says this. The place where both of the folders are? :(

Thanks for the screenshot @softbody!

Since it's saying that this is the location for the Spine Studio Dropbox folder, that would confirm that the "Spine Studio Dropbox" with the sync icon in your first screenshot is the right one.

Since this is a business Dropbox folder, it can't be named only "Dropbox" as it needs to contain the team name of the account.

You can go ahead with removing the folder called "Dropbox" without it affecting your account.

Let me know how it goes!
